Proyecto Más Color

Last Saturday I attended the 2nd Annual Afro-Latino Festival in Brooklyn!!! While there I had the pleasure of meeting two sisters who started a Campaign called Proyecto Más Color (Project More Color). This is an awareness campaign to promote more representation of Afro-Latinos on such Spanish networks as Telemundo and Univision.

Sisters, Victoria and Sophia drove from ATL to NYC to spread the word about their campaign at the festival. They started this movement because there is no one who looks like them on these channels. And I can totally relate to that. From when I was growing up until now, color (or lack thereof) has always been a problem in the Latino community.

These Honduran sisters are doing their part by not only addressing the problem, but also by trying to spark change with a petition.

"This is important because there has been a lack of representation of the diversity of the Latino culture, especially regarding the representation of Afro-Latinos. The only explanation for this disparity is discrimination. The younger generation of Afro-Latinos needs role models to look up to. Afro-Latinos have been oppressed for too long. We have the right to be represented in Latino media. This is a call for a change! We would appreciate your support in this mission."

You can help this cause by signing the Change.Org petition-------> HERE

And don't forget to follow the campaign on Twitter and Like the Facebook page.
