I Declare!

If I were to put together a list of all the books I'd recommend to people, this book would be #1 on the list. My mom sent me this book last month and I can honestly say I learned stuff that will stick with me for the rest of my life. The book is meant to last for a month, with 31 different things to read each day.

The book teaches you how to speak to your situations and obstacles. The things Joel teaches in the
book are based on what God did in the Bible. In Genesis after He formed the world, God said
"Let there be light." Just as God spoke to the situation we have to speak to our situations too.

It's Tradition

Tradition: the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction.

My parent's generation was the first to come to the United States from Panama. When my generation was growing up my Mother and my Aunts started teaching us about our culture and where we come from. One thing we did was perform traditional Panamanian Tipico dances.

Adjusting To My New Surroundings

So I have been in NYC (Brooklyn) for a little over a month now and I have mixed reviews. I defiantly love it and am still happy with my decision to move here. But I am so accustom to California standards. NYC is an old place, and is far from what I know as normal, so feeling comfortable is going to take some time.

Being the Cali girl that I am, sandals are my favorite things to wear. But since the day I left California I have not had the pleasure of wearing any. Adjusting to wearing closed toe shoes has been kind of weird. So I'll patiently wait for summer to roll around so I can sport my sandals again.

A Wedding Ceremony

When it comes to a wedding people, well maybe I should say Women, get so caught up in the glamour and the expense of the wedding ceremony that they don't take the time to really learn about the symbolism of the act they plan to engage in.

There is so much more to this wedding stuff. It's more than just a white dress and a big ring, cute bridesmaid dresses and a fun reception. I think marriage has become very casual. Many people enter into it already acknowledging that if the marriage doesn't work, they can end it with a divorce.

Representando: Pollera

The dictionary defines "pollera" as a long, full skirt with many gathers. We commonly use "pollera" to mean any full skirt. As history and paintings clearly demonstrate, this style of skirt has been found in the women's dress of Europe since time immemorial.

Be Healthy: Pears

The pear is a sweet fruit that is said to be related to the apple. Its size is about that of an apple with several seeds in the core, like an apple. Unlike apples though, most pear varieties have paper-thin skins which are not easy to peel. The skins vary in color¾yellow, green, brown, red, or a combination of any of these colors.

The light color flesh of pears is juicy, sweet and usually mild. Its texture is soft and buttery and some varieties have grainy flesh. We usually think of pear as bell-shaped, but some varieties are shaped almost like a rounded apple.
