Honey Boo Boo

I watched one episode of this show and was so uninterested. But this post is not about my opinion of the show. Recently when I was listening to The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne said something that stuck out to me. He said if Honey Boo Boo's family was Black, Black people would be
petitioning and would be upset to see our race depicted on TV in this manner. And he is absolutely right.

Representando: El Cristo Negro

The Black Christ of Portobelo is a powerful influence in Panama

Nobody knows exactly how or when the Black Christ (El Cristo Negro) arrived in the tiny community of Portobelo on Panama’s Caribbean coast. Some put the date at around 1658. But the stories of miracles surrounding the eight-foot wooden statue of the Black Christ are enough to overwhelm the village with tens of thousands of pilgrims every October 21.

Some walk the 53 miles from Panama City, thousands walk the last 22 miles from Sabanitas, and many crawl the last mile on hands and knees to worship before El Nazareno, one of the names given to the Black Christ by locals. Many wear ornate purple robes that are discarded at midnight on the steps of the church in which the statue is now housed, Iglesia San Felipe. The robes announce that the wearer is responding to a divine command, doing penance for wrongdoing, or simply making an expression of faith.

A Sad Reality

I really have no words for this picture. It's just sad that this is the world we live in.

Does This Make Black People Look Bad?

Earlier today four suspects robbed a bank and lead offices on a wild high speed pursuit that ended in South Los Angeles. If you live in LA then you know these highway pursuits are the norm. There have actually been several in the last couple of days, including one that ended with gunfire in Downtown LA last night.

But today's pursuit ended differently than I've ever seen. Once the suspects got off the freeway and entered the South LA area, they rode through neighborhoods tossing the stolen money out to citizens on the streets. And since many local LA news channels were broadcasting the pursuit live, more and more people came outside to see if they could get some of the money. People actually put their lives in danger for a chance at getting some money because the suspects was driving very fast through residential areas.

Ugh, Attention Seekers!

So apparently I'm late on this story but the other day I learned about a lady who claimed to have survived the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11. It blows my mind to know that someone would use such a tragic event to gain attention. Here is the story:

Be Healthy: Mango

Below are the numerous health and nutrition benefits of eating mangoes:
  1. Anti cancer: The phenols in mangoes, such as quercetin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, fisetin, gallic acid and methylgallat, as well as the abundant enzymes, have cancer-preventing capacities. Mango is also high in a soluble dietary fiber known as pectin. Scientist have identified a strong link between eating lots of fiber and a lower risk of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. A cup of sliced mangoes (around 165 gram) contain 76 percent of the needed daily value of vitamin C, a potent antioxidant which helps protect cells from free radical damage and reduces risk of cancer.
