Forgiving Celebrities

In light of the recent domestic situation with Evelyn Lozada and Chad Johnson I started to think about all the celebrities that have been caught up in bad situations and the how we overlook their behavior because we love their music or are entertained by their talents.

Why do we forgive or look past their actions? R. Kelly and Michael Jackson were accused of inappropriate behavior with minors, but we still listened to & purchased their music. Mike Tyson and Chris Brown committed violent acts in past relationships but people still paid to see Mike fight in the ring and still support Chris Brown's career.

Is it that we love their talents so much that we overlook certain things? Or is it that we don't really know all the details of their situations so it doesn't phase us? If the answers to these questions are yes, then do these same rules apply to people we do know?

If your friend has a domestic violence situation with their spouse, do we over look it because the spouse is a nice person? If the nice guy down the street gets accused of being a sexual predator do we still invite him to block party because he didn't do anything to personally harm us?

It is okay that we continue to support celebrities, but shun regular people when they do the same things? I don't have the answers to these questions. These are just random thoughts that pop into my head anytime someone famous gets in trouble...
